Description From The Publisher Candida Stevens Gallery: We are delighted to present Stephen Farthing’s Museums of the World, a collection of 19 paintings produced between 2015-2017, by Royal Academy Exhibitions Committee Chairman Stephen Farthing RA, of the interiors of public and private museums around the world. They were inspired by his work with British museums including the Royal Academy and the Ashmolean and by a life of travelling the world as the husband of an American diplomat. The work combines a probing look at the history of collecting while painted with Farthing’s usual good humour.

Candida Stevens Gallery – Jeremy Gardiner – Geology of Landscape

Published to Issuu by Candida Stevens Gallery on Jun 8, 2018

Collected by me on Saturday, September 21st, 2019.

Description From The Publisher Candida Stevens Gallery: It has been eight years since Jeremy’s solo presentation of work, ‘A Panoramic View’ at Pallant House Gallery. While he embarks on a study of the Sussex coast for the first time it seems timely to welcome him back to Chichester and have the opportunity to share his journey so far. In this exhibition we get to witness the development of Gardiner’s personal language in both prints and paintings made over twenty years, featuring places of great personal importance to Gardiner, including Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Gardiner says “My work reflects a deep and long-term interest with the geology of landscape and how it is shaped by the forces of nature and by unfolding the landscape through my painting I am inviting the viewer to reflect on their own transient relationship with the physical world.”

Description From The Publisher Candida Stevens Gallery: Jeremy Gardiner with his international standing as a contemporary landscape painter, produces his first body of work inspired by iconic views of Sussex, the Seven Sisters feature highly with views along the coast to Hastings. Jo Baring writes in her essay of Gardiner, ‘It is the layers of landscape which, through his scientific approach, Jeremy Gardiner is able to evoke in his paintings. The texture of the works is unique and considered, each one referencing both the geological and man-made effects on landscape.’

I love gallery and museum publications. I recently discovered some galleries on Issuu.com and have started a new collection. With this post I am also kicking off a new category called “My Zines and Pubs Collection”. It is where I’ll be posting some zines and publications I’ve collected from Issuu.com and other publication sites that I can find.

Description About This Publication From The Publisher Candida Stevens Gallery: Two highly regarded British landscape artists, Jeremy Gardiner and Calum McClure, exhibit their first body of work inspired by Sussex. Gardiner directs his spatially probing and texturally explicit style towards some of the iconic viewpoints of the coastline, including Seven Sisters, Birling Gap, Belle Tout, Beachy Head, Seaford, Cuckmere Haven, and Hastings Castle and Pier. McClure looks inland to the woodlands and the inlets, using his perspective as a Scot to explore those views which seem particularly English. He also looks to engage with the relationship between public and private spaces through his depictions of Iping Common and Petworth House, as well as focusing on the representation of light, shadow and reflection throughout the series.
